Tattoo Font Generator

About this site

A small set of tools for people planning lettering tattoos: a font generator that shows the word at the size you will actually get, and a price calculator that shows its working.

Why it exists

Font sites show pretty samples at one size and leave you to guess whether the word will still be readable at three centimetres on a wrist. Tattoo artists see the result of that guess every week. This site puts every font on one screen, lets you set the real finished width in inches or centimetres, previews it on six skin tones, and exports a file at exactly that size so the conversation with your artist starts from something concrete.

How it works

Everything runs in your browser. The preview uses the fonts served by Google Fonts; the PNG is drawn on a canvas at 300 dots per inch; the SVG converts the letters to outlines using the font file hosted on this site, so the file carries its physical size and opens correctly in design and stencil software. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

The fonts

All 42 typefaces are from the Google Fonts library under the SIL Open Font License or the Apache License 2.0. Both permit any use, including tattoos and commercial work by your artist. The licence texts are in the licences folder. If you are a type designer and would like a font removed or credited differently, email us.

The price data

The cost calculator's rate ranges, shop minimums, city figures and tipping norms come from Airtasker's US tattoo pricing guide (updated October 2026). The way they are combined is our own simplification and is described in full on the calculator page. Treat the output as a range for budgeting, not a quote.
